09:40 am: Updates for buddies ;)
Wow, I haven't posted here in such a long time. I got caught up doing a million things, and so much has happened since I was last on here, it's pretty amazing.
First off and most importantly, I'm getting married. For those who didn't know, it's on October 5th (our 1½ going out anniversary) that popped the question after Fred cooked me the most wonderful Bourgignon Beef, and she said Yes. Mind you, I asked her with a Mood ring and we went ring shopping *together* the next day! We had a nice engagement party with part of the family in a french restaurant (Le Balou, in Laval - awesome place, not too expensive), and we have now set the date for our wedding to be October 11th 2009. Details will be forthcoming in invitations (I can't invite everyone and are limited to 100 guests, so if you don't receive anything... sorry!).
In other news, I don't have my car anymore. Indeed, I was driving to Ottawa for work purposes, and on my way there I had an unfortunate accident which was my fault... And it totaled the car. Thankfully, the insurance company gave me enough to cover both the car loan as well as all other incurred expenses, with enough left to treat ourselves nicely (Hey, I got a Wii now!). Since we moved closer to downtown (Cote-Des-Neiges to be precise, 30 minutes away from work on the worst of days), I no longer had more than the occasional use for the car anyway, so it was just collecting dust when it wasn't bringing us to visit family. We'll manage without a car for a year or 2, and then I'm buying eitheroneoftheavailableelectriccars at that point.
So that's it for now, catch me on Facebook or my other blog!
Having been the owner of a used Ford Focus 2002 for 8 months now, I can say I have been pretty happy with most of my experience with this vehicle. Even while the car had been unused for several months at the time of my purchase in Juin 2007, at 94,000km I was happy to see that the car was responsive, economic and handled very well.
But the car has been, shall I dare say, plagued by a number of problem. Other than a broken coil which I had changed at my local Ford Dealer at which I had prompt and professional service (despite my internet searches which revealed several complaints about both the car and some dealers) and my regular oil change, I am still having problems with noise in my breaks and one minor (but noticeable) electrical issue which I had yet to have the time to get examined because I fear it will turn out to be expensive and I am on a tight budget.
But despite these I was still happy to own the car, until this morning. There was a good amount of very hard snow that fell during the night, but I was confident that I would have no problem getting my car out of it's parking spot - but oh how I was wrong. My first attempt after removing just the snow from the top of the car (which is normally the only step needed) failed miserably, with the car simply staying in place. After a minute of this I exited the car and proceeded to shovel out behind all the tires, after which I made another attempt - which also failed.
Thinking that snow had accumulated under the bumper and my car had effectively been jacked up, I then spent another 10 minutes (in the continuing hard snow and high winds, mind you) removing most of the snow from around it, again cleaning out around the wheels, and even adding a bit of salt to try and give it some grip (note, I have good winter tires that are still in good shape, it is their first winter). And that attempt also completely failed.
It was then that I noticed the one flaw in the design of this (and possibly other) vehicles that are so-called "low-end". Not one single time during this whole ordeal did both front wheels spin together. When I managed to get grip on one of the wheels it immediately stopped turning and all the power was relayed to the other, meaning it was utterly impossible to get the vehicle moving for more than a few milliseconds.
After more than 30 minutes of this, I gave up, stopped the car, took my lunch and walked to catch the last morning train just in time, from which I am writing this. This makes me loose almost an hour of work, as well as my evening appointment with a computer repair client, which was the reason I was taking the car through traffic to work in the first place.
Since I have no expertise in mechanics, it is hard for me to comprehend why this situation would even happen. I understand that to the contrary of the back wheels the front ones do not have one solid shaft linking them directly or they would not turn, but I do think that there is still other mechanical links (gears and such) between the wheels and logically they should be spinning together as one!
I also know that in higher-end cars there are electronic systems that control the wheel traction by detecting when a wheel spins and will give all the power to the other wheel... But right now, it sure seems like Ford cars are, by default, designed to do precisely the contrary. Is there no middle ground?
All in all, I have to say my experience with the Focus is becoming a very disappointing one, and I am starting to see that the only reason I was happy with the car is simply because it is my first one and I would be happy with any piece of junk that had four wheels, a steering and brakes. Right now, my car is beginning to feel precisely like that.
My final verdict? I will probably not be choosing Ford for my next vehicle purchase.
Sincerely, Eric-Sebastien Lachance A Not So Proud Ford Owner.
12:27 pm: My New Car!
So here's a rather long story of what happened with me trying to buy a car.
I started off with the idea that I would buy a hunk of junk for about a thousand dollars and run it to it's death, in the meantime paying off my debts to eventually work my credit properly. So I start shopping around for a car.
The first one that was proposed to me was a Chrysler New Yorker 1986, for $1000. As soon as I saw the piece of junk, I almost threw up - no way was I going to drive a washed-out "gold" new yorker with dark red linen and carpet interiors! So, scratch that.
I was then offered by a colleague his mother's car, which was a nice Hyundai Accent 1985. A very nice car that was taken care of, slept in the garage every night, had summer and winter tires, etc etc. The only problem is that the car is $5000, and since I have no credit, I didn't think there was any way to get that car short of getting someone else to co-sign for it (and no one I know could)... Scratch that.
So I started shopping around for "Second chance at credit" places that would give me a car for an incredibly high interest rate (when you're desperate, you know...) but that would at least help me with the credit. What I found was a little place called Autos Global, in RDP. The first car I saw when I got there was pretty nice - a 1999 Hyundai Accent GSI (the sporty version with spoilers and such), with 140,000km on it, automatic, sunroof, A/C, etc. The car was $3300, which was still pretty much within my budget. So I fill in the papers, and I'm with Fred, which co-signs for it to give us the best chance (by this time, we figured that it was really important to get the car, so there was really no choice. Plus, we love each other anyway, right?), and wait a few days...
The news comes in - I get financed for up to $9500, but... The car needs to be of year 2000 and up! Shit, so scratch the Accent since it's one year too old (*sigh*), so I go back to the shop and check out the other vehicles... There was a corolla 2001 that looked nice in the pictures, but up close the seats were stained, the leather was used, it looked like shit. I continue checking, with a Maxima and Altima (gas guzzlers, forget about it) passing by...
I finally end up looking at a Ford Focus SE 2002, which also is Automatic, A/C, electric doors and windows, no sunroof (who needs it with A/C?), sedan 4-door version. There's not much scratches on it, but a bit of rust under it. It has 95,000km. The price? $6000, which is more or less still in budget. So I fill out the papers for that one, and for credit verification reasons it's not possible for me to get it (that was last wednesday). I have to wait for those verifications and the next time I can come over is on Friday (last friday).
So during all this time, I'm getting insurance quotes from Desjardins. The New Yorker was $290, the Accent GSI was $325, and the Ford Focus is $435. Great prices, right? So I'm all prepared and all I'm missing is the creditor company's name, as well as the car's serial number.
Now here comes the shit. On wednesday, I was so pissed at not having my car yet, that I actually went out and rented another Avenger at National again - $200 total (car, gas, etc). So on Friday, I have to go get Fred at work at 4:30, take the Avenger back to the rental place, and then head out to Autos Global to sign the papers and get the car - all before I have to be back at a karaoke place for 7:00 pm. See the problem? If you don't, you've never tried to go from the West Island to Jean-Talon at 5pm on the Jazz Festival weekend. Traffic was hell, needless to say.
I got to the rental place at 7, gave back the car (oh and by the way while I was setting up my karaoke in the evening, someone clipped the left mirror on a hit and run, good thing I was insured!) and hopped in a taxi to get to Global - got there at 7:20, meaning everyone had been waiting on me for an hour...
Anyway, get there, start filling in papers, and I call back Desjardins to get a confirmation of Insurance so I can leave with the car... The shit hits the fan - they can't give me that because the creditor is Wells Fargo, they would need to transfer my file to a separate department and have me sign more papers - none of which can be done on friday at 7:30 pm. So we try to call another place, Belair, which can't do it because I have a bad credit and they need to request my file from the SAQ, which, you guessed it, can't be done right away.
So the Global guy opens his drawer and magically produces a card for a guy that has "helped him in such situations before". The guy actually showed up at the car place after telling me that the price would be - hold on tight - $3600 per year.... Caught your breath yet? Yes, it costs me half the amount of the car in insurance. On top of that, I almost gagged when I saw that the total price of the car, which with taxes, service fees and interest, climbs up to $10,000. I finally ended up with the car though (oh, and I had to fill 'er up because the tank was empty - it didn't even start before he put some from a plastic tank!), after signing more insurance papers and promising to fax missing information on tuesday.
All in all, I'm now in debt for $13600 more in one single evening - but you know what, I have a fucking car now, and I can drive it around all I want. I'm now shopping for a cheaper insurance ($2300 per year is the cheapest to date), and after doing my budget, I can still afford the car and have some money available for paying the other debts.
In some way, maybe the car guy, insurance guy and the credit woman are all laughing at me right now as I felt they were on Friday... But in the end, I'm going to make it, pay this car off, and next time I buy one, I will probably be able to afford a brand new one. So joke's on them... Eventually.
It started with the fact that it was my birthday yesterday, and at the same time it was Claude's (my Karaoke boss) birthday too - yes, we are both born on May 9th, though 23 years in between. So this guy has loads of cash, and he decides that for his own bday, he wants to drive a fancy car - a Mercedes. He has contacts everywhere, so he finds a dealer that rents one... And he says he'll lend me his red-hot Sunfire GT 2004 while he has the Mercedes. You can of course guess I'm extatic about it since I haven't found a car for myself yet!
Comes the day for the rental, and... the car isn't available. Maybe the guy that had it before decided to keep it, I'm not sure, but what I know is, we're both a bit sad, especially me since I was expecting (and needing, this weekend) a car! So I decide, fuck it, I want my car, we'll rent one.
We get in contact with National Auto, talk to a guy that tells us that it would cost around $250 for the car until monday, and he has a Ford Focus in stock (smallest car available). Well, sounds pretty good, so we go there about half an hour later... Surprise, the guy's gone, there's no Focus left. But, they have an "avenger", for the same price (no clue what that was when she said it). So we fill out the forms, I show my new license, pay for the car using Claude's visa (and his car insurance covers the rental, so it's cheaper), and we walk in to the garage, to find:
WHAM. My jaw drops to the floor. I got the Electric Blue one, not red. I sit in it (it's so damn huge, I feel tiny in it!). Driving it is divine, I feel like a million dollars driving up St-Laurent street. Even in traffic going to Ste-Anne to get Fred, I was happy! The drive is beautiful, the car is spacious and impressive, and Lucas is very happy.
02:01 am: Praise the Free Wireless
I'm currently sitting in a nice little place called Café Zaza on Décarie, sipping on a Café au Lait, at 2am in the morning. Why? Because I'm going to see my girlfriend all the way in Ste-Anne-De-Bellevue. ETA: 4:19am, according to Tous Azimuts.
How I found the café is pretty easy - a bit of basic "wardriving", just walking from Côte Vertue down Décarie, stopping here and there on a bench to check out the wireless connexions that were open. Cafe Zaza popped up obviousely, and as soon as I had a clear signal I googled their address. Very awesome. I guess it's something that's a new way of life, living on free wireless connections here and there when not at home. Having a laptop has that advantage I guess, and I'm happy with the one I have now.
Some might try to take advantage of such connexions - not the case with me. I prefer to be legit and just browse when I can and look up quick stuff. Such as the schedule for a bus (30 minutes to go still) or posting a new LJ entry.
Fred has a journal by the way, which is vicenspice. Hop on there for news about her (I think she didn't post anything yet), I'll be helping her with the visual design when we have the time to get around it.
Oh, by the way, we decided that it would be very logical for us to move in together this summer. You might think it's very fast (after all we've been together only for two weeks), but it's not much faster than with Tiff, and we both need to move anyway so what's the point in moving in separately? Just in case, we're going for a 4½ with two bedrooms, just in case something goes bad or we're having a fight. And in case everything's a-ok, well we can use the second room as a computer room (which it's going to be even at first). We of course both thought about it very logically before jumping, each on our side, and came to the same conclusion.
That's about it for now, I guess it's good enough news for now. I've received my driver's license today by mail, so I have the official ID card in hand, for the first time ever. I'm extatic. See this face? Doesn't it look extatic? :P
04:37 pm: Why Geeks and Nerds Are Worth It...
In the wide world of dating, there are many options. Do you go for the flashy guy with the smooth smile, or the dude in the corner typing away on his laptop? The following are reasons why I think my fellow females should pay more attention to the quiet geeks and nerds, and less attention to the flashy boys.
1.) While geeks and nerds may be awkward, they’re well-meaning 9 out of 10 times. That smooth dude with the sly grin and the spider hands? Wonder what HIS intentions are... plus, I’ve never had a geek guy not call me when he said he would. Score major points THERE.
2.) They’re useful. In this tech-savvy world, it’s great to have a b/f who can make your laptop, desktop, and just about anything else that plugs into a wall behave itself.
3.) They’re more romantic than they’re given credit for. Ok true, their idea of romance might be to make up a spiffy web-page with all the reasons why they love you, with links to pics of you and sonnets and such... but hey. It lasts longer than flowers, plus you can show your friends.
4.) Due to their neglected status, there are plenty to choose from. You like ‘em tall and slender? There are plenty of geeks/nerds who are. You like ‘em smaller with more meat on their bones? Got that too.
5.) They’ve got brains. Come on now, how can intelligence be a bad thing?
6.) Most are quite good at remembering dates. Like birthdates and such, especially if they know it’ll make you happy. Due again to their neglected status, they’re more attentive than guys who “have more options”. Plus, with all that down time without a steady girlfriend, they’ll likely have mental lists of all the things they’d love to do once they GOT a girlfriend.
7.) Sex. Yep. Sex. I’m not really familiar with this myself, but I’ve friends who’ve been intimate with geek guys and it’s raves all around. They say a virgin wrote the Kama Sutra... all that time thinking about sex, imagining sex, dreaming about sex, (they are male after all) coupled with a desire to make you happy? Use your imagination.
8.) They’re relatively low-maintenance. Most can be fueled on pizza, Twinkies and Mt Dew. No complicated dinners needed here, so if you’re not the best cook, eh. Can you order a pizza?
9.) Most frequent bars as often as slugs frequent salt mines. You won’t have to worry much about your geek guy getting his “groove” on with club hotties because, frankly, he’ll be too busy rooting around under his computer wondering where that spare cable went. You won’t have to worry about him flirting with other women because, 9 out of 10 times, he’ll zip right by them in a perfect b-line towards the nearest electronics store. I’ve seen this happen. Me: “Eww. Victoria Secret’s Models... They’re so skinny. How is that feminine? You can see her ribs!” Geek Guy: “ooooooo...” Me: “Hey!” *notices he is staring lustfully towards the computer store* Geek Guy: “What?” Me: “Never mind...”
10.) Although he may not want to go to every outing with you, you can arrange swaps, as in, you’ll go to his Gamer Con dressed as an elf princess if he’ll take you to the ballet. Plus, if he doesn’t want to go someplace with you, you won’t have to worry much about what he’s up to. You’ll probably come home to find him asleep on his keyboard in a sea of Mt. Dew cans with code blinking from the screen. It’s ok. He’s used to this. Just toss a blanket over him and turn out the light.
11.) His friends aren’t jerks. I can’t stress this enough. You’ll more likely get “Omg! A GIRL!! Can I see?!” than “Hey hot stuff back that ass up here and let me get some grub on...” They’re awkward geeks too and will, 9 times out of 10, treat you with the utmost respect and, more than likely, a note of awe. A cute girl picked one of their clan to date? It could happen to them! Hope! Drag some of your single girlfriends over, open up a pack of Mt. Dew, crack open the DnD set and get working. Nothing impresses geek guys more than a girl who can hack-n-slash (well ok maybe if she can code... a geek can dream).
12.) They’re rarely if ever possessive. They trust you, so you can be yourself around them. You like to walk around the house in a ratty t-shirt for comfort? He won’t care. He does too! They won’t get pissy if you don’t wear make-up or don’t want to bother primping your hair. If you gain a few pounds, they won’t try their best to make you feel like crap.
13.) They’re usually very well educated. Physics majors and the like. See #5. You won’t have to listen to him blathering on about his car (ok maybe a little), he’ll have loads of other interesting things to talk about. Politics, world events, how much the chicken burgers down at the local place rock, so long as you douse them in hot sauce...
14.) You’ll almost never have to hear, “Yaw dawg whazzap!!” plop out of their mouths. Unless it’s in jest. They spell properly, use correct punctuation, and are able to tell the difference between the toilet and the floor. They almost never get “wasted”, so you won’t have to worry about coming home to find him and his friends passed out on the floor amidst a pile of beer bottles. Mt. Dew cans, perhaps...
15.) And the final reason why geeks and nerds make great boyfriends: They actually give a damn about you. Not how you look (though that’s a plus), not how skinny you are, not how much make-up you primp yourself up with, but they like you for you. That kind of thing lasts longer than “DaMN baby you got a fine ass!!!” Believe me.
Someone understood that page really good. I'm now officially Frédérique's Boyfriend (some of you met her, the others will this wednesday). I could of course go on and on about how awesome she is, but you'll find out for yourself. :)
02:58 pm: Laptop For Sale
Last wednesday at the L2 I told people I was getting a brand new laptop, and I got a few people asking me what I was doing with the old one.
It was reserved for another guy for the Karaoke, but he decided he didn't want a used laptop (he wants the new one I have - sucks to be him :P) so it turns out I need to sell it on my own - and fast.

07:11 pm: Driver's License, Finally!
So I just got off from the SAAQ's website and finally got an appointment to pass my license (the driving part). Which means I'll be able to drive in less than a month and get a car. Yay!!!
My karaoke boss has been getting on my case in the last few weeks because he wants me to get a car so he can stop lugging me around with the speakers and my equipment when I need to do karaoke at new places. Plus, since I've started dating a very nice girl in St-Anne-De-Bellevue, it'll save on bus transit time - a lot.
Approximately 1 hour ago, I subscribed to the "Loose Change Forum" and posted an introduction about myself - how I went from unconscious to Conspiracy Theorist (CT) and then to "Official Conspiracy Theorist" (OCT). I only slightly modified the one I had on the Screw Loose Change Forums, only removing a few small things that might have been badly received as well as adding a paragraph about how I doubted I would last long before being banned.
I had no clue just how quick you guys were. The posted lasted just about 20 minutes before my IP was banned. I did not yet receive an email explaining this action, nor did I receive any sort of warning. I just refreshed the page to find that "Sorry, you are not permitted to use this board".
After this introductory posts all my topics were to be in the "Skeptics Area" where I would have asked questions about small events related to 9/11. Those questions would have been things like: "Can you explain to me how this picture is showing a "minor" fire?" and "Specifically, if explosives survived the WTC fires, explain to me how the detonators survived the same fire."
Those questions are still unanswered by CTists on the SLC forums and I would have liked to know how they would be received on the official LC forums. Unfortunately that will not now be possible. One of your administrators has banned my IP (and probably deleted my post though I have no way to knowing), thus effectively silencing me on the LC forums. I would like to get an explanation from this person as to exactly the reason why I was banned without a warning and without discussion first.
As I fear this will never happen, I can tell you right now that I will not be silenced. Once I have researched the proper elements of the debate more thoroughly and am able to refer to specific quotes and names on a whim, I will be calling the shots (probably on Alex's website) about these questions which no one seems to have the answer to.
In the meantime Dylan, I wish the Naudet lawsuit is going well for you and I join the ranks of people who understand that your work of fiction is exactly the reason you got rejected twice by the Purchase College's film school - because you don't know how to make a movie.
And Alex, I've enjoyed watching movies on google of you at Ground Zero where your only defense against Mark Roberts was to turn around, ignore him, and scream "9/11 was an inside job, we're going to win this one! Woohoo!" like a 10 year old. I hope I'll enjoy more of those in the future.
Cheers to you and your lies movement, Eric-Sebastien Lachance aka Lucas on SLC Forums

10:51 pm: Debunking myself
I have to say, one of the hardest thing for a lot of people to do is to admit when you're wrong. Today I find that it's probably even worse with conspiracy theorists, and I am now clearly (and happily) disassociating myself from that way of thinking.
So I watched a lot of videos online, took in the information as pretty valid (it all seemed very sound), but just as the Twins didn't really need complete melting of their support to collapse, so do the conspiracy theories don't need a complete and utter destruction to go the same way.
Admittedly, I was looking to do a cleanup of my bookmarks when I came upon the truth. It seems weird, I know, but what happens is that I saw one of my bookmarks on The Best Page In The Universe, by a guy named Maddox. I remembered Jacen telling me about the fact that he rebuked the whole conspiracy theory, so I went to take a look. Now, he doesn't say much in his article rudely entitled "There is no 9/11 conspiracy you morons.", only that since the guy that made the Loose Change video is still alive, it proves that there's no conspiracy - because of course They would have killed him and those who made that movie very quickly. Honestly Maddox, that's the most ridiculous piece of shit theory I've heard of them all. You're really an asshole you know that? Oh, right, you do, that's why your page is titled as such, because you like controversy and getting hate mail. Then again I understand the mentality, you should really meet Super Dave, he's an awesome pissed off "reporter", too. Oh come on, I'm trying to lighten the mood here.
But back to the topic. Maddox does get one thing right here, after going through a little fun about folded cash bills, and that's to link to the Loose Change 2nd Edition Viewer Guide. The Guide is an extremely informative guide that goes into details about just what Dylan Avery got wrong in his video - a total of 426 errors of different types (and I mean fallacies, similes, complete lies as well as straw man arguments, not typos and minor slip-ups). It's a very interesting read and it takes less time to read than watching the video itself. Maddox also links to the NIST: Fact Sheet about their investigation of 9/11. There's a small thing I saw on that page that caught my eye just a moment ago:
Some 200 technical experts—including about 85 career NIST experts and 125 leading experts from the private sector and academia—reviewed tens of thousands of documents, interviewed more than 1,000 people, reviewed 7,000 segments of video footage and 7,000 photographs, analyzed 236 pieces of steel from the wreckage, performed laboratory tests and sophisticated computer simulations of the sequence of events that occurred from the moment the aircraft struck the towers until they began to collapse.
Now, there's no way Dylan did any of that research himself. I mean, he had to read all those conspiracy theory websites and books, search the footage he could use on google video and youtube, so he didn't have any time to get off his ass and do some real researching. I'm extremely ashamed at myself for believing anything Dylan, an average American who has no expertise whatsoever in any of the fields related to 9/11. Here's how Wikipedia describes him:
Dylan Avery is director, narrator and a producer of Loose Change. Avery is from Oneonta, New York. After being rejected twice by Purchase College's film school, Avery planned to make a movie about a group of friends who discover the September 11, 2001 attacks were an "inside job". Along the way Avery himself became convinced of this.
So this kid, younger than me, starts writing fiction, and convinces himself that it's actually true. He admits this. He also admits that he and his co-filmmakers "claim "Loose Change" is designed to pose questions, not to answer them". I guess that settles the point.
But actually, the whole point is that all of those conspiracy theorists will base their wild stories on bits and pieces of evidence that are taken out of context or twisted to fit their own reality, and wave them around like they were the truth. To a lot of people, the Twins falling looked and sounded like explosives going off and controlled demolition. Now let's ask this simple question: How many of those witnesses, nay, how many people in average has ever seen or heard a real explosion, a real controlled demolition, or a 100+ story building coming down in the middle of a city?
Those people aren't lying. They really did hear explosions, booming sounds, and flashes. They really were explosions in the basements. These were caused by elevators hurtling down shafts and followed by burning engine fuel (no, the shafts were not airtight. What kind of moron doesn't realize that elevator DOORS aren't airtight? Oh, yeah, me until yesterday. Ouch). Explosions were also caused by transformers and generators shorting out and exploding.
How many so-called experts were misquoted and taken out of context? How many later repeated that what they said was that it looked like a controlled demolition, not that is was, even in their opinion. Closer inspection and some logic (which failed me miserably at first but is starting to catch up) breaks a lot of the conspiracy theories... Here's a few of those easy misconceptions that can easily be fixed:
Squibs: There are plenty of videos that show what are referred to as squibs, which are seen in controlled demolitions. However, all of those supposed squibs are single, random outbursts, are not in sequence at all, and are of varying size. The error in logic here is that if it was supposed to be pre-planted explosives and they were going off (boom-boom-boom-boom) in sequence, why did these particular explosives go off randomly? I mean, if it was planned, they placed all the trigger wiring in places it would be protected, so there's no reason any of those misfired. Furthermore, I'd think that if they wanted to cover it up they would have made completely sure that none of those were visible, so they would not have had any chance of pointing outwards.
Strength of the steel: It's generally accepted by conspiracy theorists that the fires couldn't have melted the steel - thus is couldn't have caused the towers to collapse. It's also generally accepted by experts in the field that steel weakens to about 10% of it's strength at temperatures of 1 000 degrees Celsius, which was about the temperature of the fires inside the towers up to the time of the collapse. Even if it was lower than that, at 648 degrees Celsius steel is at 50% - quite enough for it to stop supporting the tons of concrete and steel over it. Remember also that the steel columns in the towers weren't solid, they were hollowed out. And, it's obvious that they were damaged by the plane crashing into it - how else would debris from the plan go clear through the building and out the other side in the first plane crash (and the second, though not at the same angle)? We can't see the damage ourselves in the videos, but it's obvious from what was said in exchanges between firefighters and people inside the building calling out on cellphones that there was a lot of heat. So how come people could be standing out the gaping sides of the building if it was so hot? Honestly, that's simple. They were standing on the side where the wind was blowing in, and they were trying to be as far as possible from that heat!
The 2nd tower hit was the first to fall: Some would think that the fact that the second tower hit was the first to fall is the sign that there's a conspiracy - after all, it was hit in the corner and there was less damage, right? So, the person who sent the signal to demolish must've hit the wrong button and the wrong building went down. Riiiiight. Yes, I did think it was weird that the second tower went down first since the majority of the fuel burned off outside the building in a huge fireball. But then again, it did that in the first tower too, and experts (as well as conspiracy theorists!) agree that the fuel burned off quickly, which means that logically it didn't make much of a difference in terms of fire temperatures because it was the subsequent burning of all that was in the towers (walls, lining, equipments, desks, etc) that caused the weakening of the steel. However, in terms of structural damage (I'm no engineer but I think it's pretty logical), the fact that one side of the building was hit instead of it being head-on means that the pressure was not equal in the tower anymore. The corner that was damaged was weaker, meaning that twisting of the other beams would more easily happen - whereas in the first tower the weakening was more equal and there was comparatively less , or more equal, stress. Does this sound more far-fetched than controlled demolition? I think not.
Bomb sniffing dogs: Yes, the bomb-sniffing squads were removed on September 6th. That's an admitted fact. But they weren't always there, goddammit! They were there since two weeks prior to that because there were bomb threats over the phone and they took no chances. So the dogs stayed there for two weeks, and when the threat was removed, so were they. Now, this brings up another point which I'll incorporate here. There were a number of times in the weeks preceding 9/11 that the towers were evacuated and teams of engineers were installing new network cabling to augment the bandwidth capacity in the towers. First, that's logical to me, being in the Internet business, since it's clear we're running into a multimedia era on the Internet, and everyone wants more bandwidth (how else would you watch all those funny videos on youtube or those conspiracy theories on google video? On a 512k connection?). Second, if it was in the weeks preceding, and the dogs were removed only on the 6th (4 days before the attack)... That specific contradiction is of course left out from all those videos, because it clearly indicates that the conspiracy theories are a load of bullshit.
WTC 7: Now, for me this was a major "smoking gun", because in all the videos I've seen up to know, it looks as though (yes, there's that word, looks, again - as in, it seems like, it gives the impression of) the building is going down like controlled demolition. Initially, a whole lot of people said it looked like it - reporters, firemen, and mostly anyone that was watching. But how many people kept that theory in their heads for long? The fact is, according to a whole lot of firefighters, there was a huge gaping hole in the back of the building, and fire was raging in and around that hole. The fire had plenty of fuel - what with all those governmental agencies in the building, you can imagine that there as two main sources. The first source was the shitload of paperwork (that some conspiracy theorists think was destroyed on purpose) that we know the government loves, as well as the diesel generators that were meant to keep the place running (like, the mayor's emergency bunker!) in case of a power failure in the city. One of those generators was pretty large and was fed by a pressurized fuel tank in the basement, which is just like saying there was an Acme Inferno Creator right there in WTC7. But this is not enough, because if it was only that, WTC7 would still be the only large building (as opposed to the only building ever) in history to collapse by fire. So let's rebuke that right now - WTC7 received (as witnessed by a large number of people as well as firefighters) structural damage from pieces of the WTC Twins which fell down on it, causing structural damage as well as starting the fires. Now, don't tell me that the other buildings around the twins got out undamaged from all of this - because all of the other WTC buildings (4, 5 and 6) were almost totally destroyed by the falling debris of the tower: huge chunks of steel framing and concrete falling down on a building tends to do that. Now, the CTists don't like for you to see is the back of the building, which suffered extensive damage from the fall of the second tower. I just spent almost 10 minutes looking for more pictures of the back of the 7 building, and finally found them on the 911 Myths website (a very interesting read that expands on a lot of the subjects I cover). You can clearly see all the damage that the building received from the falling towers, as well as the intense fire needed to cause the collapse. Oh, by the way, firefighters never even tried to fight the WTC7 fires, they were pulled out (definition: removing an object from another) of the building following an assessment that the structural damage was too extensive.
Only buildings in history to collapse by fire: Yes I know I just covered this, but I want to make it very clear: the theory that only the fires caused the towers (all or any of them) to collapse is completely ludicrous. The fact that conspiracy theorists say this is proof that it was controlled demolition is equally stupid - it was a combination of structural damage and structural weakening by the subsequent fires that caused the collapses! Remember that the other fires mentioned in all those videos were all in the process of being fought by the local fire departments where no structural damage was impeding their work, the evacuation had time to take place before the fires got too strong, and no one was in a state of shock and confusion following an attack on their country! There are also some who wave around the fact that a bomber hit the Empire State Building in 1945 as proof that buildings can resist plane crashes. But a B-52 is significantly smaller than a 767, and it was flying both a lot slower and with a lot less fuel. There is also another case of a military plane hitting the 58th floor of a building on wall street in 1946, again not causing the building to collapse. But in both those cases the buildings were of standard steel frame constructions, whereas the WTC towers were constructed with a very different structure - the center support and outer shell were the only support and the office space was wide open. This type of structure could not have supported the hit of the 767s hitting them.
The twins were designed to withstand planes hitting them: This is only partially true. Hyman Brown, World Trade Center's construction manager, said that the towers could probably withstand a boeing 707 (which, despite popular claims, is smaller than a 767) impact at approach speeds - not a 767 at full ramming speeds.
Now, through all of this, I amaze myself that I didn't see it all on my first try. I guess I was too horrified of even the possibility that the attack was anything else than a terrorist act on American soil. This blinded me to my usual analytic thinking, but no more. My eyes were opened twice in the last month. The first was to the possibility of a conspiracy, the second to the possibility that the conspiracy is just a load of bullshit and belongs in the trash bin.
Further research on my part will continue however. As mentioned previously, I've seen horrific things about the government's supposed actions (the police state, bohemian grove, etc), and I've sent an email to the Loose Change View Guide's author Mark Roberts in hopes that he can point me towards pages that destroy those videos also. This could continue to be interesting.
I still continue to keep an open eye on all this, of course. I'm still reading all the reports and the websites, trying to see who seemingly has the right information. Until now, the "debunking" and "anti-conspiracy" websites seem to be citing the right experts and explaining things in a wholly clearer and more logical ways than Dylan Avery and Alex Jones ever have.
Speaking of Alex - though he seems to touch on an extremely wide variety of deep dark secrets, I've have just about enough of his constant drilling, of saying "this is the truth, accept it" instead of just posing the facts in a concise and unbiased matter. He brings valid points on a lot of things (you should see his theories on the JFK assassination), but I'm sure that there are quite a lot of people who can easily destroy those through logic instead of assumption and far-fetched conclusions.
Anyways, I just spend over 3 hours writing this entry, and I think it's just about time I stop blabbering endlessly. I'd like to finish on the note that though I rarely cite the sources in my arguments, it doesn't mean they aren't there - it just means I'm too lazy to write them. Check the links I provided, they do have all the appropriate sources. Just as I have asked in the past that people watch the conspiracy videos, I now invite them to see the anti-conspiracy sites. Only fools never change their minds. I'm no fool, I've changed mine twice ;)
01:18 am: Just what exactly is going on here?
I'm just appalled by what I'm listening to right now. I've discussed two posts ago on how I was starting to see what was happening around 9/11, and the whole thing runs so deep, I could spend years researching this and I would not even scratch the surface myself.
Now, first I realize that I'm watching stuff on Google Video that is "unofficial", meaning it's not mainstream media, it's not stuff that most people know or even want to know. A lot of it is blatantly considered by conspiracy theories. God help me, I'm not an American and happy for that - not because I don't like Americans, but because as you should know, talking about these conspiracy theories is considered a terrorist threat under the so-called Patriot Act. Yes, I'm a terrorist. Am I?
Here's some food for thought, that I hope people around me will listen to and study, just as I hope they will look into my previous 9/11 post.
I'm watching this video here from Alex Jones. Not a nowhere man, but a radio man in Texas, filming documentaries that are very controversial. Here's the video on Google. It's 2:30 hours long but well worth the watch. Now, before you watch Alex's documentary, in order to fully be hit with all those consequences, I invite you to watch the videos more or less in the same order as I did. Check the links in my previous post.
First, forget about Fahrenheit 9/11. It's totally ridiculous, and doesn't address any of the real issues. The first movie you should watch is Loose Change 2nd Edition. You can also see 9/11 Mysteries, 9/11 Revisited, 9/11 Press for Truth, and the BYU Professor Steven E Jones Lecture (search google video as always). Those videos tell about the technical aspects of 9/11 and how they could not have have happened as we have been told.
This sets the first very clear basis for the rest of the story, and I have undeniable faith that this is the truth: 9/11 was premeditated by the US Bush administration and had nothing to do with terrorism. There is no way the Twins (and WTC7) could have fallen from anything other than controlled demolition, and no way that could have happened without an inside job. Especially not in WTC7 with offices for the CIA and FBI as well as NATO. It's just... not... possible.
Second, watch Mike Ruppert's Truth & Lies of 9/11, which goes into details about the CIA dealing with billions of dollars of drugs, and how the US invaded the middle-east specifically for places to grow those drugs, as well as for the Oil and Gold that's there. He also flirts on details about the So-Called Patriot Act (SCPA) and starts showing what it really means. He goes on saying that this is because the money from this drug trade is used to support the US economy, which probably would have fallen long ago if not for this support.
This sets our second basis for the story: There is motive by the US Government to have done this. You'll see more details on this, keep reading.
Third, watch Alex Jones' 9/11 Road to Tyranny where he really goes into details about the SCPA and how it's removing most of American's god-given rights, the constitution of America, so proudly viewed by all Americans (and with reason might I add). The President swore to protect this constitution, and now he's destroying it with SCPA part 1, and soon with SCPA part 2. It also says that this has been going on for a lot longer than we think, and you'll see this by watching the video.
And then, go with where I'm at right now - and this is probably far from being the end - Alex Jones' Martial Law 9/11: Rise of the Police State. Now this video not only continues on the Road to Tyranny idea, it extends this and very clearly and precisely, beyond all reasonable doubts, link Bush, Schwarzenegger, Cheney and such to the deepest evil cults that are known to man, namely "Skull and Bones" offspring of the Illuminati. Those cults were the basis of the Nazi regime, which also used acts of terrorism to control the population through fear.
As a general interest information and because it's clear in my memory (the rest I'll need to re watch again and again to burn in my mind), did you know that our dear action hero Arnold dreams about being dictator of the world? That he thinks 95% of the people of the world need to be told what to do? And that this guy is trying to become our new President, by amending the constitution to let "Naturalized" Americans (that's immigrants now citizens) to run for the Presidency?
The same guy that hits women, dreams of being a world dictator and has strong ties to the Nazi would be our next President, right after Bush starts clearly opening the path to a permanent Martial Law (aka Police State) for him to be the Dictator he wants and to let him conquer the world. It sounds strange, doesn't it? Don't we all think that conquering other countries is now pretty much impossible, that any country trying to invade the other would be stopped? There's only one problem with that. The "police" that would stop invasions like that is mostly the US and it's allies which are either in bed with them or not powerful enough to stop them.
At the same time that I am thinking that a major world revolution is coming, something that will upset the balance of this world that we consider our own, I'm not sure where I should turn to, what I should do about it. If you've seen V for Vendetta, if you've read 1984, know that you are, right now, smack in the middle of it. Whether we as Canadians are threatened by this right now is debatable and that's where I'm turning to next, and I hope you, my friends, will follow me in this journey. I shiver thinking about what I might uncover about our friend Harper...
12:42 am: :Lucas.Single
Well folks, I just got dumped by a girlfriend I have never even seen. Talk about a looser, huh? Oh now wait, I'm not a looser, I can't think that of myself. I have a nice new appartment, two good jobs that I happen to love, and a lot of friends around me who actually love me for who I am. Though you have to wonder though, would you really call someone who doesn't have time for love a winner?
If a girl down in Denver doesn't have time for me (or are there other reasons, EX-Angel? Maybe things you could talk about with Manu but couldn't face me with, huh?), it doesn't mean I'm a bad guy. It just means that this wonderful bond that we shared, the feeling of belonging, the finding of a soulmate, was a very nice load of... Whatever you want to call it, people.
Anyways I'm not going to dwell on the loss, as I admitedly saw it coming (all the signs were there, in fact), and the hit is very small. Heck it's not even a wake up call, and nothing really has changed between now and before this ... relation? Can we call it that? I'm not even sure.
So good night to you all ladies and gent's. I'm off to bed.
11:21 pm: The growing implications of 9/11 are slowly picking up with me.
It started, long ago, when I first saw Farenheit 911. I saw it, it slightly registered in my conscious mind... But then I saw so much stuff destroying that movie and his author, his views and everything about him. So, I guess I just put it aside and thought, "Hey it looks like a point of view problem as well as a political problem. Forget it". That was about 2 years ago.
Last christmas, my cousin (member of Criollo) brought up his MacBook and suddenly, for a reason I cannot remember, starts playing Loose Change2nd Edition (see on Google Video). Now, I have a very analytic and logic mind, and the arguments shown in that video hit me, like a ton of bricks, like a 10 ton truck on the highway. I suddenly realized, in horror, that the American Government, the Bush administration, had seemlingly masterminded and covered up an attack on their own people. Just from that 1½ hour movie, I saw evidence start stacking up against the government in general, saying that people within that government knew about the attacks, and actually participated in them - who else could have sent a missile in the Pentagon and try to cover it up as a plane crash, then seize all possible videotapes from businesses around within 15 minutes? Who else could have created the illusion that the Twin Towers fell, killing thousands of innocent Americans, just because of a plane hitting it, when the Twins were specifically designed to withstand exactly that?
But the growing question in my mind from that point wasn't IF the govermnent did it, because it was clear that they did, but WHY they did it. I started snooping around 9/11 websites, watching videos on Google Videos, and the truth started to dawn on me. Because I first concentrated on the act itself and already beleived it was faked, before looking out to the implications of the act before and after, I was open to any argument or explanation. One came out of nowhere and hit me again: Drugs.
Wait, you say, what do drugs have to do with 9/11? Well I won't try myself to explain it, because it would take hours to do so, and it's already been explained, in the video that I saw. But the basics is this. The CIA has been leading an international drug cartel controling at the very least 1 trillion dollars yearly in drugs for years now, because that money is used to support the government, covertly. Furthermore, we all know that the American government (the ones who think the US of A is all powerful, at least) have been wanting to be in control of major oil reserves for a while also. Both drugs and oil, as well as gold, can be found in the middle east. See Truth & Lies of 9/11 by Mike Ruppert, on Google Video, for more details on that.
I've also found from watching 911 Aftermath (in 3 parts on Google Video) that part of this whole process also involved the stripping of what is generally refered to as "American's God-give rights", also known as the Constitution. If you don't know what I mean by this, if you haven't read the text of the Patriot Act and the Homeland Security Act, then you've been living under a rock - but not by your own fault! The American Government has been doing it's best to disinform it's constituants and not let them see that they are currently without protection against the higher power.
I will now let you research by yourself - nay, I will pray that you research by yourself about 9/11, the CIA drug control, the invasion of the USA in Irak and Afghanistan (as well as a few other 'stans out there by their presence), and the demolition of the US Constitution. Hell, think of a hint of the Enron scandal being thrown into this, because most of the documents for Enron's case was destoyed in the controled demolition of World Trade Center #7...
And I will finish with a prediction. Columbia is the next target. Did you that in Columbia is said to be the last untapped reserves of oil in the world? Watch out, Bush is coming for you...
Thoughts? Questions? I'll do my best to answer them!
Here are a few points to start your research: 9/11 Press for Truth - the story of a group of woman (widows to men working in the Twin Towers) wanting the government to answer basic questions in regards to 9/11, having failed with that 911 commission to get the truth. 9/11 Mysteries - details about the controled explosions in the WTC, the use of Thermite explosives and Sulfur accelerants in all three towers, and all pertaining details. BYU Professor Steven E Jones Lecture about the WTC tower explosions and surrounding implications, with scientific backing and detailed research.
10:35 pm: Jack no more
So I think I've finally passed a crucial step in my life. If you've known me for any amount of time, you should know that I've always complained that I didn't know where I was going in life. I didn't see myself anywhere or doing anything in 10, 25, 50 years.
All that, now, has changed. I have finally had a glimpse of myself, years away. Holding a camera and taking pictures of life - mine, other's, Mother Nature's. I see myself selling those pictures as wood laminates on the Internet and making money. Even art galleries displaying my work on a piece of wall is a remote vision.
This means that I have stopped looking. I know where I'm going, what I need to achieve this goal, and at least part of it's steps. I'm going to take a Minor in photography at Concordia U, then buy an awesome camera, and then start strutting my stuff.
From now on, my track record as Jack of All Trades has ended. I am going to gradually stop doing other stuff. I'm not getting into web design, nor into singing or producing albums (that will definitely stay as a hobby though). I will probably not get too much into web programming either, though I am learning Ruby on Rails, for the sake of at least making my own website failing outside contracts.
As far as technical support goes, there's a good chance that I'll stay at that for a while. The only reason I would leave VIF, for example, is if I were able to do 4-5 nights a week on Karaoke. And actually, that's probably closer than I think.
So here you are, yet another New an Improved Lucas, ready to face the challenges of life - at least for a while. :D
04:36 am: Did you drop some change, Mr. President?
Anyone that is American or that has American roots should definitely see the following movie. Basically, it depicts and almost proves that the people responsible for the events on 9/11 were NOT terrorists. They were part of the American Governmental institution - the Bush administration.
While Fahrenheit 911 concentrated on the social and political sides of the event, Loose Change goes for the technical aspects, trying to bring proof to claims such as: - The Twin Towers didn't fall - they were blown up (Proof: They fell at free fall speeds) - What hit the Pentagon was a missile, not a plane (Proof: The damn hole was too small and plane completely vanished - all hundred tons of it)
They also go into some details on the "conspiracy": - An insurance was taken on the twin towers months before the incident, with a clause specifically against terrorism acts. - The Singer building also was destroyed, and NO other building had any structural damage to it. - The phone calls from cell phones on the hijacked planes were faked. - So many other things...
09:30 pm: The Help Me Meet My Soulmate Fund (HeMeMeMys)
Allright, well, some of you might know that I have recently found my soulmate in life. The woman that understands me and that I understand, a person with whom I can communicate at a level I have never felt before.
My slight problem in this situation is that I am 1632 miles away from her, and my current situation makes it extremely hard for me to go and visit her all the way in Denver, Colorado - especially if I want to make it worth my while by staying there for more than a week. Living expenses outside my own city (because it would not be proper to sleep at her place!), plane tickets, food, and spending money, would be somewhat scarce if I just up and left tomorrow.
For this reason I have been trying to put money aside for the trip - but with my roomates moving out and taking all the furniture with them, that has become harder to do that I initially thought.
In the lingering spirit of the holidays and the new year's, I wish to most humbly rely on the huge community/family that is the Internet, by asking whatever small donation you can afford to my newly created "Help Me Meet My Soulmate" fund.
Whatever amount you can spare is welcome, from $1 to $50, whatever your heart desires. Simply click the following button to be taken to the PayPal donation page:
I hereby solemnly swear that I will not use this money for any other purpose than to get to Denver, survive there, and come back. I will also list donators (and email address unless requested otherwise) on this page, by reverse order of donation amount. Thank you for your time in listening to me!
Update Jan 4th 2007: I've decided to put up a little history of how I came to meet and fall in love with my soulmate. First of all, her name is Natasha, she's 24 years old, and very cute (of course my opinion is biased, but rightly so). We met on OkCupid.com after I had put a post up on my profile's journal on that site, and we started talking, just because the first messages exchanged seemed to show we could get along well. Looking back that was an understatement - in a very short period of time we built a link stronger than anything either of us had felt in the past, it just "clicked". She's all that I'd wish to have and vice versa. We get along so well, we've invented a new expression for ourselves : YACT (Yet Another Common Thing), and we kept saying multiple times a day for weeks "Hey, I think like that too!", and that's still an almost daily occurrence.
But long distance relationships are truly hard to maintain, and being all those miles away can really hit hard on our systems. We want to meet each other as soon as possible - not only to just hug each other for hours, but mainly because we want to know if it'll work physically too! The sooner the better, so we both know which way it's going to lean. And this is exactly why I'd need a bit of help, because the plane (or train, as an alternative) tickets, accommodations, food and such are amounting to a bill that's slightly over our budget (she might contribute on her next paycheck, but she does have school bills to pay!).
03:16 pm: The Space Banana
So I installed this game, "The Movies" from lionhead, and I'm going through the game at a leisurly pace, just having fun. My goal at the end when I have a working studio is to make a few small videos just for fun to upload on youtube and test my talents as a producer. Who knows, I might throw some interesting stuff ou there on the 'net!
Anyways as I was playing the game I finally got to build a "post-production" building, where movies can be edited with voices, sound effects, music, subtitles, and such. I thought I'd try messing around with a movie just for fun. I just added subtitles and changed the music, maybe did some minor ajustments. I think this was supposed to be sci-fi, but it turns out to be a comedy I guess. LOL.
05:06 am: I don't know what to think or do!
So here I am, once again caught up in something that's beyond my control or almost, events that fuck up my life entirely, in a good or bad way I'm not sure (though it tends towards the good but challenging).
Of course you all know I don't want to stay single very long, even though right now I'm generally comfortable with my single-ness - that is, other than my previous story with Pav, and obviousely this current situation I'll share with you. I did open a profile here and there on free dating sites. One was OkCupid (new window), on which I've met a number of interesting people.
One of them, Natasha, answered a post I had made on my OkCupid journal about girls having a profile but specifically indicating that they would never answer anyone's messages. It was a random chance encounter that she saw the post, because she had to be on the site and on the homescreen to see it. This was on the 18th.
Since then we've been talking mostly every day on MSN, once on the phone... And we "clicked" in a major way. I'm not only saying that we just have conversation - I mean we have a connection that goes beyond just interest. We are Soul Mates. We think alike so much that saying "oh I feel the same" or "I think that too" have become routine occurences. We understand each other beyond anything I've ever felt or dreamed about.
The hitch? She's 1632 miles away in Denver, Colorado. You'll see that number, 1632, appear often in my MSN titles and randomly in my conversations. Now you know what it means. It means that this distance is separating me from the single person in the world I feel like I'm meant to be with, the person that understands me more than anyone and that I can understand as much as I understand myself! I am 1632 away from total happiness, from being in the arms of an angel.
There are no words to discribe what I'm feeling right now. I'm torn between the thought that it would be best to learn about each other, to keep it steady and slow until a good occasion presents itself to us to be together. The other part of me wants to just dump everything and everyone here, take as much money as I can, a few clothe and myself, and just go there and start my life again from nothing. It's not like I have much to lose (other than, admitedely, a closeness to my friends and especially my family!)... But I know all too well that this is probably not possible as I need to think about immigration laws before moving down there.
I thought it would help to talk about it, I truly did, but a few conversations with different people yielded nothing, and was even worse because while talking about it I can feel it pulling at me, this desire for someone that is so far away yet so close in my heart. I am ready, ready to do anything to get to her, to be with her, to hug her until our arms fall off, to never let go.
Fuck. Fuck. FUCK. FUCK!!!! Does anyone feel like a fucking road trip to Denver?
05:03 am: Karaoke Powaa!
Non, ca as rien à voir avec le Karaoke MIJ, qui en passant a lieu le Mardi 5 Décembre à 18h30 à L'Exode, au Cégep du Vieux Montréal. BE THERE.
*rolleyes*.
